Darby's “Ode to the Motherland”

Cebu's Darby Vincent Alcoseba recently ticked off an entry in his professional creative bucket list in having a solo show staged at the NCCA Gallery in Metro Manila.

Billed “Ode to the Motherland”, the exhibit came after Darby’s recent participation in the London Art Biennale last July, where he was awarded the Chianciano Art Museum Award.

The exhibit was his third solo show and his first solo exhibition for a state-sponsored art institution.

In laying down the show’s curatorial score, portions of its curator’s notes reads: Darby’s “sceneries and environments on canvases are shaped by impasto and other painting techniques that reflect western traditions yet remain anchored in Philippine subjectivities.”
