The Danao City Government has opted not to participate in the P20-per-kilo rice initiative, known as the "P20-Benteng Bigas Meron Na" (PBBM) program, citing the absence of formal communication or official directives from relevant agencies.

Danao City Mayor Thomas Mark “Mix” Durano told reporters in an interview that the city would not implement the P20-per-kilo rice program.

“I have no invitation, gani pag meeting nila didto I only saw it from the media,” Durano said, referring to where he first learned about the program’s planned rollout.

Durano raised concerns about the implementation, particularly the lack of guidelines and procedures for selling the rice. He shared that before reaching a decision, he consulted with the head of the Danao City Agriculture Department.

He said he asked whether the city had received any official communication or invitation to participate. The agriculture official reportedly confirmed that no such documents had been provided.

“The question nga akong giingon are we gonna issue receipt? Kinsa may pabaligyaon nato?” Durano added, expressing confusion over the logistics of the program.

The mayor emphasized that no communication regarding the program's implementation had ever reached his office. He noted that clear procedures are essential to avoid disappointing the public.

Durano also pointed out the importance of transparency, especially in programs involving public funds. He stressed that a well-structured plan and proper auditing are crucial for accountability.
