Cebu City Mayor Archival wants env'tal compliance during Undas

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival is placing environmental protection at the center of this year’s All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day observance, urging residents to honor their departed loved ones without harming the living environment.

During his inspection at the Calamba and Pardo cemeteries last Friday, Archival said that a week to go before the “Kalag-kalag” only about 30 percent of the areas had been cleared of overgrown grass and debris yet.

“Daghan pa kaayo’g sagbot nga nagpabilin,” Archival said, as he directed Engr. Kohn Paul Gelasque of the Dept. of Public Services and the cemetery maintenance teams to complete the clearing by nightfall and ensure that all nine public cemeteries in the city are clean, well-lit, and accessible before the influx of visitors.

Among the mayor’s key directives was the relocation of the traditional Paaso ritual — outside cemetery grounds.
