Capitol to temporarily reroute waste to Aloguinsan

To address proper waste disposal following the collapse of the Binaliw landfill, the Cebu Provincial Government will temporarily divert its waste from the Provincial Capitol and other province-run facilities to a landfill in Aloguinsan.
-
According to Provincial Administrator Atty. Ace Durano, the move came after an avalanche rendered the Binaliw landfill nonoperational, leading the province to immediately look for an alternative site for garbage disposal.
Durano said waste generated by the Cebu Provincial Capitol, Larsian, and other provincial government-run properties had long been hauled to the Binaliw landfill prior to the incident.
“Gahapon nagkasabot na so our waste will be delivered or kuhaon sa munisipyo adto sa Aloguinsan in the meantime,” Durano said in an interview yesterday.
The provincial government has identified the San Rafael Sanitary Landfill in Aloguinsan as its temporary disposal site.
Durano said the decision was reached following a meeting on January 12 with the Provincial General Services Office (PGSO), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Aloguinsan Mayor Cesare Ignatius “Ig-ig” G. Moreno.
He said the DENR, through Secretary Raphael “Popo” Lotilla, recommended the Aloguinsan landfill as one of the viable options while the province looks for more permanent solutions.
He noted that the Aloguinsan landfill has been operating for many years.
