Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival Sr. unveiled one of his plans for his first 100 days in office --- the installation of drinking public water fountains across the city. This is part of his program to replace bottled water with tumblers.

Last Saturday, Archival graced the launching of an initiative that promotes the importance of waste segregation, which has been piloted in Barrio Luz. At the same event, Archival reiterated his advocacy of reducing plastic waste by encouraging the public to use refillable water tumblers instead of contributing to the rising cost and waste associated with bottled water.

During the event, Archival gave out P500 bills to those who brought their tumblers to further highlight this advocacy.

According to him, it will be easier to promote this project in Cebu City since the city faces the dual challenges of garbage disposal and water supply shortages.

Archival explained that during a meeting with City Hall department heads, he observed that each attendee was given a bottle of water costing around P10 each—three bottles amounting to 1.5 liters at a cost of P30.

"Now you can just imagine how wasteful we are," said Archival.
