Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival urged fellow electrical engineers and other experts in the industry for a stronger collaboration with the city government that he is leading in pursuing sustainability and equitable development.

Addressing the Eastern and Central Visayas Regional (ECVR) Conference of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) at the IEC Convention Center, the licensed electrical engineer-turned-chief executive lauded the IIEE's unwavering commitment to innovation and national growth.

"This is one of the biggest conferences in the Philippines, and I'm honored to be part of it," he told delegates, encouraging them to embrace their roles not only as providers of power but as professionals who "energize lives and empower communities."

Archival highlighted the city's push to reduce plastic waste.

Citing the practice already adopted at City Hall, Archival urged engineers to opt for reusable tumblers—a small act, he said, with a massive impact.

A recent internal meeting, he noted, had seen the distribution of 450 plastic water bottles, costing the city financially and environmentally.
