The Philippines finds itself at a pivotal moment in history as it confronts a multifaceted set of political and economic challenges that require urgent and strategic action.

These challenges are dynamic and evolving, shaped by both domestic conditions and external factors. While they pose significant risks to national stability and development, they also present opportunities for reform, resilience and long-term growth if addressed with foresight and effective leadership.
These broader developments were brought into sharper focus in 2025 when a series of significant developments further shaped the national landscape. The arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court intensified national and international debates on accountability, justice, and the rule of law.
Cabinet reshuffles and the introduction of a new legislative agenda that focused on strengthening governance, improving the investment climate, expanding social services and ensuring energy security also further defined the year.
At the same time, corruption scandals linked to flood control projects, along with external pressures such as U.S. reciprocal tariffs, heightened uncertainty and weighed on public trust, business confidence, and overall economic performance.
Against this backdrop, on January 20, the Stratbase Institute for Strategic and International Studies launched the book "Politiká Beyond 2028: The Urgency for Resilient Growth, Inclusive Governance, and Geostrategic Thinking." This book offers a timely guide to help the nation navigate an era of uncertainty while seizing emerging opportunities.
