Kerala tourism hit by Gulf conflict fallout

Tourism operators across Kerala are reporting a wave of cancellations as geopolitical tensions in West Asia begin to disrupt travel patterns, raising concerns over the stability of a sector that contributes roughly a tenth of the State’s economic output.

Industry representatives say bookings from key overseas markets have slowed sharply, with the impact felt across leisure, wellness and medical tourism segments. The disruption follows escalating hostilities involving Iran and a coalition led by the United States and Israel, which has unsettled travel sentiment and led to tighter fuel controls in parts of the region, including Colombo, a key transit hub for travellers heading to South Asia.

Kerala’s tourism economy, heavily reliant on international arrivals, is particularly exposed to shifts in long-haul travel behaviour.
