PMC staff, residents clash over dog capture

A heated altercation broke out between Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) employees and residents of Aundh on Wednesday over the capture of a community dog.

A PMC team had arrived in the locality following a complaint that a dog had been biting residents. However, locals and volunteers of Pure Animal Lovers (PAL) claimed that the officials were taking away the wrong animal. The argument soon turned into a verbal confrontation.

According to information available, PMC received a complaint about a “dangerous dog” that had allegedly bitten several people in the area. The team went to capture the animal and take it to the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre. Residents alleged that the dog being taken away was a harmless community dog they had been feeding daily.
