OBJECTION | Opposition says the change is with the objective of bringing in Karunanidhi association to more place names
Tamil Nadu’s decision to strip streets, localities and waterbodies of caste-linked names by 19 November has triggered fierce criticism from opposition forces, even as the state mobilises gram sabhas to build consensus.
The Chief Secretary's directive demands that district collectors submit lists of affected places by 14 October, invite public suggestions by 17 October, and issue notifications by 24 October. Final approvals are to be forwarded by 14 November, ensuring full implementation before the deadline. Once renamed, residents must update official documents — such as Aadhaar cards, property records and caste certificates with government assistance.
