Bangladesh’s interim government on Monday said that most incidents involving minority communities in 2025 were criminal in nature and not driven by communal motives, amid criticism from India over attacks on Hindus.

A statement from Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus’ press wing said police records showed 645 cases involving minorities between January and December 2025. Of these, only 71 were found to have communal elements, including temple vandalism, arson, threats, provocative social media posts and one murder.
