BJP backs move to rename state as Keralam

Bharatiya Janata Party’s State unit has thrown its weight behind the State government's proposal to officially adopt ‘Keralam as the formal name of the State, marking a rare convergence between the ruling coalition and the principal opposition on an issue rooted in linguistic identity and cultural heritage.

The endorsement came from BJP State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who said the party would support all steps taken by the government to preserve and formally recognise the name ‘Keralam’, which reflects the Malayalam language and the region's historical self-identification.

His remarks signal a calibrated political positioning on a matter that has gathered momentum within administrative and cultural circles, even as it continues to prompt legal and procedural scrutiny.
