In a dramatic decision, the Allahabad High Court overturned a 1984 trial court acquittal and convicted a man for the murder of his wife, Kusuma Devi, in an incident that occurred 43 years ago.

The Court sentenced the main accused, Awadhesh Kumar, and co-accused Mata Prasad to life imprisonment, ordering them to surrender within two weeks.

The murder took place on August 6, 1982, and the prosecution alleged the victim was killed by her husband and three others-two of whom died during the appeal-in connection with Awadhesh Kumar's alleged illicit relationship with his younger brother's wife.
