Trump, Netanyahu meet amid Gaza peace push

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday arrived at the White House for talks on Gaza’s postwar future and as Israel's international isolation has deepened. Several European countries recently announced they now recognised a Palestinian state.

US president Trump came outside to welcome Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel when he arrived at the White House. Trump greeted Netanyahu by praising his appearance, and then told reporters gathered outside he was “very confident” there would be peace in Gaza.

The meeting could come down to a binary choice for Netanyahu: accept Trump's plan or risk a public rift with a president who appears willing to break with him over Gaza for the first time since returning to office.
