Protest forces rollback of Colaba turf project

Following objections and protests by local football players, the proposed astro-turfing of the Colaba Backgarden, locally known as Colaba Football Ground, has been cancelled.

MLA Rahul Narwekar said in a video message, “The mud football ground will be retained. The players’ objections have reached me, and the ground will continue to have a mud surface. However, amenities such as floodlights and toilets for players will be developed on the side.”

However, the football coaches said they are await-

ing a written assurance from the BMC. “We are glad that the MLA has once again promised to retain the ground, but we will believe that the installation of astroturfing has been cancelled only after we receive it in
