BMC said nominations and affidavits are to be submitted in Marathi only; while Cong has demanded allowing submission in English, Shiv Sena is firm on only Marathi

- Devashri Bhujbal

Several candidates for the upcoming BMC elections have objected to the State Election Commission's (SEC) decision to make it mandatory to submit nomination forms and affidavits exclusively in Marathi.

The candidates pointed out that during the 2017 BMC elections and the 2024 state Assembly polls, the SEC had allowed affidavits to be filed in either Marathi or English. Representatives of various political parties have raised concerns that the move could inconvenience candidates who are more comfortable using English for official documentation.
