HC orders SOP for rallies

The Madras High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu government to create a standard operating procedure (SOP) within 10 days for holding public meetings, following the tragic Karur TVK rally stampede that claimed 41 lives. The decision comes after a batch of petitions were filed in connection with the incident, which raised significant concerns regarding the safety measures for large public gatherings.

The first bench, consisting of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan, made the ruling on Monday. The bench was hearing petitions that questioned the handling of public events and the conditions under which political rallies could take place.
