Fake IDs, Poor Tenant Checks Fueling Crimes

The rise in fake identity documents and poor tenant verification has emerged as a serious challenge for the Pune city administration, contributing significantly to increasing crime, residents told The Free Press Journal (FPJ).

Many locals alleged that despite living in their areas for years, several tenants and paying guests have not undergone mandatory police verification.

Compounding the concern are reports of forged Aadhaar, PAN, and voter IDs being used to rent homes or access services, often by illegal international immigrants.

"Tenants are supposed to be verified by the police, but in reality, very few house owners follow this rule. The dedicated authorities are not responding well to such issues," Vijay Kapre, a senior citizen from Hadapsar, told the FPJ.
