A consumer dispute in Coimbatore has led to a significant financial penalty for a local department store that imposed conditions on its free parking service.

- HD Bureau

The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has mandated that the store pay Rs 40,000 in total compensation for causing mental distress to a customer.

The complainant, Gowri, who resides near Race Course on Trichy Road, approached the commission after the store required her to purchase goods worth over Rs 500 to avail of the free parking facility. This condition, which she argued was unreasonable and violated her consumer rights, led her to file a complaint seeking compensation.
