Many have medicinal value, some provide important raw materials like gums and resins, dyes and many more. Ever increasing human population and urbanization witnessed during the last few decades has been quite instrumental in the felling of trees and shrubs for road building or widening and for other developmental programs. The city of Amritsar has also borne this onslaught on its torso. Amritsar has expanded on all sides; many villages have been urbanized and the blatant loss of biodiversity is being witnessed.
