Unnao rape case: Survivor meets Rahul amid bail outrage

A day after the Delhi High Court suspended the life sentence of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case, the survivor and her family met Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi, seeking legal assistance, relocation to a Congress-ruled state and enhanced security, citing fears for their safety.
The survivor, accompanied by women’s rights activist Yogita Bhayana, visited 10 Janpath on Wednesday evening. According to sources, the family urged Gandhi to help them engage a senior lawyer to challenge Sengar’s bail before the Supreme Court, facilitate their relocation to a Congress-ruled state due to security concerns, and explore better employment opportunities for the survivor's husband.
Gandhi assured them of assistance on all counts. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi was also present during the meeting. Sources said both leaders promised to do everything within their capacity to ensure justice and protection for the family.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the survivor said she also wished to meet Droupadi Murmu, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to apprise them of her ordeal. “We just want to tell them what we are going through,” she said, adding that she hoped all authorities would intervene to ensure justice and safety.
