The BJP has for long been dithering over its next party chief; for some reason, the announcement has been pending in the in-tray for nearly two years now.
The Congress, on the other hand, has managed to hold elections for the post of the party chief and has a 'democratically elected' president in place. Having said that, it is still the BJP more than the Congress that has some sort of a leadership matrix in place. There are a host of second-rung leaders being groomed from Yogi Adityanath to Devendra Fadnavis, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Dharmendra Pradhan. Even in terms of seniority, if one looks beyond the Modi-Shah duo, there are Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, ML Khattar, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
