Sonia Slams Govt, Says Waqf Bill a 'Brazen Assault'

Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday slammed the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, saying the discussions on important issues are not allowed in Parliament and that it is shocking to see how the treasury bench members themselves get the House adjourned to not allow the debate in Parliament.

She described this as "quite extraordinary and shocking," designed to prevent the Opposition from raising concerns that would put the government on the spot.

She also said that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha and is scheduled to come up in the Rajya Sabha today; the bill was, in effect, bulldozed through.
