India in 2047: The last push towards freedom from limits
The Daily Guardian
|September 02, 2025
Being the world's fifth-largest economy is not enough. Development is about quality of life, strong institutions, and social advancement. Our record is uneven especially in gender equality, climate responsibility, and job creation.
We broke free from colonial shackles. Now, we must shatter the invisible glass ceiling keeping us from "developed nation" status. Imagine a rocket, the hardest part is not takeoff, but breaking through the atmosphere.
In 79 years, India has moved from poverty and illiteracy to one of the fastest-growing economies, powered by reforms, technology, and infrastructure. But the next 21 years will decide if we take the leap from developing to developed.
Being the world's fifth-largest economy is not enough. Development is about quality of life, strong institutions, and social advancement. Our record is uneven especially in gender equality, climate responsibility, and job creation. These will shape whether we meet the Viksit Bharat 2047 goal.
Progress is visible, more girls in schools, more women in workplaces. Yet, female labour force participation hovers at 25% among the lowest in major economies. In 2022 alone, 445,256 crimes against women were reported, up 4% from the previous year. Most cities remain unsafe at night; pay gaps persist; leadership remains male-dominated.
