Handloom Day: Our Timeless Heritage, From Swadeshi To Self-Reliance

The Swadeshi Movement gave a new consciousness to local products and especially handloom. The same image of self-respect and pride is also reflected in the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for Local' and this mantra is now becoming a symbol of India's steps towards self-reliance.

On 7 August 1905, a new chapter was added to the pages of the country's history in the form of the Swadeshi Movement; on this day, a call was given from the Town Hall of Kolkata to adopt Swadeshi products.

Underlining the importance of this historic day linking Swadeshi with self-respect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the initiative to celebrate it as National Handloom Day in the year 2015.

Under the leadership of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the state government imbibed the Prime Minister's call of 'Vocal for Local' and through its concrete policies, gave it a new texture in Rajasthan.
