As the blistering heat of May settles over the Pink City, school bells fall silent and children across Jaipur and beyond slip into the much-anticipated summer vacation.

From Screens to Sketchbooks: Reclaiming Childhood Through Summer Art

But for many families, the joy of the break quickly gives way to a familiar concern: how to keep children meaningfully engaged during these long, unstructured days?

In an age dominated by digital screens, where children often oscillate between video games and mobile reels, the question becomes even more pressing. But tucked amidst the buzz of summer camps and online classes, a quieter, richer world is taking root—one where colours, creativity, and expression take centre stage.

Welcome to the world of summer art workshops. A Canvas of Possibility

"Children today are not just smart—they are intuitive, emotional, and deeply observant," says Payal Lulla, a visual artist and seasoned art educator who has worked with children across age groups. "What they need is a space to express—to be messy, imaginative, and free."

In the shaded verandas of community centres or the airy classrooms of local schools, small groups of children are gathering this summer to paint, draw, sculpt, and journal—not just to create 'art', but to explore their inner worlds.
