'Don't be trapped': NCP leaders warned Bangladesh of far-right before rift

While a section of leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) have distanced themselves from the party over its alliance with the Jamaat-e-Islami, known for its radical Islamist ideology, it has emerged that several of its leaders had also raised their voices against the “violence” being orchestrated in the name of the July uprising, with one of them even warn-

Some members also resigned over disagreements related to ticket distribution for the upcoming February elections, while Mahfuj Alam, one of the key figures of the July uprising, stated that he “is not a part of this NCP.”

The NCP — a party comprising leaders and members who led the student uprising — was born out of the July 2024 movement initiated by Students Against Discrimination and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee.
