Cong cites book to claim Gandhi described RSS as 'communal body with totalitarian outlook'

The Congress on Thursday (October 2, 2025) quoted works reflecting the views of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel to target the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which was celebrating its centenary on Vijayadashami.
Congress general secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh cited a book that quoted Gandhi describing the Sangh as a “communal body with a totalitarian outlook” and referred to a speech of Patel, India’s first Home Minister, at a Congress session in Jaipur in which Sardar vehemently criticised the RSS.
In a post on X, Mr. Ramesh said Pyarelal was one of Gandhi's closest aides, being part of his personal staff for almost three decades, and became his secretary after the death of Mahadev Desai in 1942.
