COAI backs tariff hike, cites widening cost-revenue gap

Telecom industry body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has defended mobile service providers’ decision to increase tariffs, saying the gap between network deployment costs and revenue earnings continues to widen, despite government support.

Speaking at the India Mobile Congress, COAI Director General SP Kochhar told PTI that although the government has introduced favourable policies such as the Right of Way (RoW) framework, several local authorities still impose exorbitant fees for network infrastructure deployment.
