Cloud hangs over Kolkata police as parents of RG Kar victim allege hush money offered

Parents of the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, have accused the Kolkata Police, which has initially handling the case, of offering them money to "settle the matter".

"The Deputy Commissioner (North) of Kolkata Police came to my house even as my daughter's body was lying on the first floor and offered me a bundle of notes, saying it would be of use to us," the father of the slain doctor told The Daily Guardian. "I refused the money offered," he added.

Indira Mukherjee, Deputy Commissioner (North) of Kolkata Police, who allegedly offered money, refused to comment. However, the Trinamool Congress came out in defence of the police and brought out a video which showed the parents denying that they were offered money. Later VII on, the victim's father said that "immense pressure was put on them to record the denial video".
