W Cape damage repairs cost rises

Amid efforts to repair the damage caused by severe storms, the Western Cape government is warning that clean-up operations could take longer and cost more than expected.
Premier Alan Winde said the cost of damage to the Meiringspoort area alone is currently estimated at R421 million, with a reconstruction programme expected to take around 26 months.
Severe storms in mid-year caused extensive damage to Meiringspoort, the 25km mountain pass connecting the Klein Karoo and the Garden Route.
