R71M TO PAY IN US: COURT RULES FOR REAL TAMMY TAYLOR NAILS OWNER
If Peet and Melany Viljoen of Tammy Taylor fame skip the country, as he claimed on social media and, if they're headed for the United States, they're in for a rude awakening because a US court has ruled they must pay the real Tammy Taylor R71 370 400 ($4 million) for statutory damages caused by their use of her trademark and breach of contract.
The Viljoens had insisted that they were the legitimate owners of the Tammy Taylor Nails brand and were franchising it across South Africa, leading to a number of claims from dissatisfied franchisees of being ripped off.
In the latest court case that The Citizen reported on, High Court in Pretoria Judge Joseph Raulinga ordered the Viljoens to pay back the R600 000 a woman paid for a Tammy Taylor franchise. He also declared the transaction unconscionable, unjust, unreasonable and void in terms of the Consumer Protection Act.
This week, reports emerged of a video posted by Peet Viljoen on Instagram where he allegedly makes racist statements and urges whites to follow him to the US.
