PENDING: GUM-CHEWING JORDAAN CITES APPLICATIONS STILL TO BE HEARD IN HIGH COURT
Relaxed and chewing gum, Danny Jordaan, South African Football Association (Safa) president, yesterday asked a magistrate to strike his criminal case off the roll, pending two applications in the High Court in Johannesburg.
Jordaan, Safa chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling appeared at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge, charged with fraud for allegedly misusing R1.3 million of the association's funds for personal gain.
During proceedings, Jordaan appeared nonchalant and the magistrate instructed the soccer boss to stop chewing gum.
"Mr Jordaan, can you please remove the chewing gum that you are chewing in court?" the magistrate requested.
The matter was postponed until Tuesday. The trio are each out on R20 000 bail.
The state opposed advocate Norman Arendse, Jordaan's legal representative, saying he was conflicted as he did legal work for Safa and its structures.
