SA's drinking problem is everyone's problem

South Africa's high levels of alcohol consumption represent not only a public health concern, but a growing threat to social stability and economic productivity.

When measured by drinkers only, South Africa ranks among the top five countries globally, with an estimated 30l of alcohol consumed per drinker per year.

According to the World Health Organisation, the global average alcohol consumption is about 5.5l per person a year.
