FRAUD: STATE TRIES TO HAVE ADVOCATE RECUSED

The Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crime Court dismissed an application by the state to get South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan's lawyer, advocate Norman Arendse, recused.

State prosecutor Moagi Malebati brought the application yesterday for Arendse to recuse himself due to an alleged conflict of interest.

Jordaan, Safa chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo, and businessman Trevor Neethling made their third appearance yesterday at the same court, sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court.

Jordaan and Hluyo also filed to have the case struck off the roll, citing unreasonable delays under Section 342(a) of the Criminal Procedure Act.

Malebati argued Arendse's involvement in a separate case representing Safa created a potential conflict.
