We've been warned about the dangers of adding too much fat and sugar to our diets, and now it looks as though we have to go easy on the salt shaker as well.

Salt, which is also referred to as sodium, is necessary for the body as it controls the fluid balance in the cells. But, it should be taken in moderation, and it is recommended that an adult eats about one teaspoon or six grams per day.
