Three-year rat misery of council house renter

A North Tyneside council house tenant has been battling a rat infestation for over three years.

Gail Carter, whose son Reiss lives at the property on Burnside Avenue in Annitsford, Cramlington, has described the ordeal as "exhausting".

Reiss moved into the home in May of 2022 and was faced with issues originating from the state that a former neighbour left their own home in. This went on to attract rats, which started to spread to nearby properties.

Gail said: "There was such a huge hygiene problem in that other house and it meant that the rats which were there quickly made their way into Reiss' home. They have been everywhere: in the walls, ceilings and floors. We have had to get a new kitchen installed because they destroyed it.
