Schar is a key player for Howe

FABIAN Schar remains a vital part of Eddie Howe's plans at Newcastle United - despite Malick Thiaw grasping his opportunity to impress.

The classy German international has quickly captured the imagination of Newcastle fans.

However, Schar, who will be 34 in December, is still very much in the picture as far as Howe is concerned, and while his current deal ends on June 30, a further decision must be made on his future.

There will be no shortage of interest in Schar if he became available on a free transfer, and if no deal is agreed, the club could look to cash in with January.
