SUNDERLAND are taking great pride in their defensive work so far this season, and some of the key figures in that effort have given their thoughts after the latest clean sheet.

- By SAM ALLEN

The Black Cats were solid at the back to earn their second Premier League clean sheet in just their fourth game this season, drawing 0-0 away at Crystal Palace at the weekend.

There is a team spirit and a belief in the dressing room that is crucial for a newly-promoted side trying to compete in England’s top league, with some key individual performances to go with it.

Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs was instrumental again between the posts to earn a clean sheet and draw at Selhurst Park, making a string of fine saves. He echoed the point on the togetherness that already exists in a much-changed Sunderland team.

“We go into every game looking to win, but we are pleased with the point,” Roefs said.
