TEAM WILL HONOUR BELOVED KATY, WHO DIED AT JUST 24 DUE TO EPILEPSY
A COUNTY Durham mum who has raised thousands for charity is set to skydive this weekend in memory of the daughter who died due to epilepsy at just 24.
Helen Doyle, 70, will be taking on a tandem skydive at Shotton Airflield, 17 years on from daughter Katy's heartbreaking death.
Her death was due to Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). In the intervening time, Helen and her family have raised £180,000 for charity Epilepsy Action.
Helen said: "It was an honour to have Katy as our daughter. She was the axis our family spun around and she loved all the family being together.
"She gave the best cuddles and her giggles still ring in our ears, even 17 years later!
"When Katy developed epilepsy, she had been a member of Epilepsy Action, and often used the charity for information about the condition.
"The charity's focus has always been to help those affected by epilepsy lead the best lives they can, through advice, support and campaigning. I'm pushing myself out of my comfort zone for this skydive, but why not? Katy is worth it."
