The Chronicle
|November 18, 2025
A GROUP of MPs from County Durham has called on the Government to deliver fairer funding for the area.
The six Labour MPs representing County Durham have put their signatures to a joint letter, demanding a better council funding settlement.
In their correspondence, the MPs spotlighted the existing funding inequalities between the region and other areas of the country and declared “County Durham deserves better”.
Luke Akehurst (North Durham); Mary Kelly Foy (City of Durham); Grahame Morris (Easington); Sam Rushworth (Bishop Auckland); Alan Strickland (Newton Aycliffe); and Liz Twist (Blaydon and Consett) all added their names to the appeal before the Autumn Budget on November 26.
