AN “amazing” North Tyneside tot who had open heart surgery at five days old is “hitting all her milestones” despite being on the waiting list for more surgery.

- By DANIEL HALL

Sixteen-month-old Bonnie Scott is a bubbly and outgoing toddler who “loves being around people”.

Yet before she was born, her parents Greg Scott and Bethany Wallace, from Holystone, feared they might lose her.

At Bethany’s 20-week-scan, medics picked up that Bonnie had a coarctation (narrowing) of the aorta.

Thankfully, Bonnie was born without any complications on April 17 2024, but medics picked up on more issues with her heart during a scan.

Baby Bonnie had an atrial septal defect (ASD - a hole in the top of her heart) and ventricular septal defect (VSD - holes at the bottom).

Less than a week after she came into the world, Bonnie spent seven hours in an operating theatre at the Freeman Hospital.

The narrowing of her aorta and ASD were repaired, but she is now on a waiting list for open heart surgery to repair the VSD.
