I just wanted to help him... I was gutted I couldn't save him

A MAN has told how he tried to save the life of Stanley gun victim Barry Dawson after he was shot in his home.

Ryan says he was visiting a friend at Elm Street, in the South Moor area of Stanley, when he heard what he now knows to be gunshots coming from across the road.

The 31-year-old raced out the house he was in and went to try to help Barry, who was lying fatally injured on the floor in the front room.

He said: "I just wanted to help him. I was gutted I couldn't save him."
