Cup parade showed off 'city at its brilliant best'

SCENES of 300,000 jubilant Geordies lining the streets to celebrate Newcastle United's Carabao Cup win can help usher in a brighter future for the city, council leaders believe.

Stunning images of the swathes of Magpies supporters who turned out to see Eddie Howe's team parade their trophy through the city last month travelled far and wide. And that show of Newcastle pride is something city officials want to make the most of, as part of a push to boost Tyneside's global reputation and attract new waves of investment and tourism.

Newcastle Council leader Karen Kilgour said the trophy parade showed "our city at its brilliant best" and that the display of joy and togetherness was "what we wish to harness for the future".
