The Chronicle
|October 11, 2025
A Gateshead scheme aimed at tackling low quality homes in Saltwell identified over 2,000 housing hazards, logged over 1,300 police checks, and uncovered a brothel.
Gateshead Council has reviewed its landlord licensing scheme for a Saltwell area known as The Avenues, which began in 2018 and ended in April this year.
The area was contained side to side by Rectory Road and Alexandra Road, and top to bottom by Whitehall Road and Saltwell View. The area was identified in 2018 as in the top 30% deprived areas in the country.
