CHESHIRE West and Chester's ruling Labour group has been dealt a body blow after two of its councillors quit the party

- BY MARK SMITH, LOCAL DEMOCRACY REPORTER

CHESHIRE West and Chester's ruling Labour group has been dealt a body blow after two of its councillors quit the party, leaving it no longer able to form a majority administration.

Jimmy Shannon, who represents Whitby Groves in Ellesmere Port, and Great Boughton councillor Elizabeth MacGlashan have both left the group and the Labour Party itself, having become dismayed with national policies.

In a statement, Cllr MacGlashan said: "The Labour party has become a party I don’t recognise any more. It’s a party that no longer represents the working class or the most vulnerable in our society."
