Reliance Retail in talks with QIA for $1 bn invest

Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar, is reportedly looking to expand its presence in India and is engaged in discussions to acquire a minority stake in Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd., the rapidly growing retail arm of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani.

The discussions are in the early stages, and other oil-rich Middle Eastern investors are also expressing interest in investing in Reliance Retail.
While the talks are still preliminary, and there is no guarantee that a deal will be finalized, the potential stake acquisition by QIA is estimated to be around $1 billion. The news of QIA’s interest in Reliance Retail was first reported by the Financial Times, citing anonymous sources with knowledge of the matter. Following the report, shares of Reliance Industries Ltd., the parent company of Reliance Retail, saw a rise of up to 2.5% on Wednesday.
