The Tuna-Tekra deep-draft terminal in Gujarat's Deendayal Port, a Rs 4,500 crore PPP project, aims to become a vital international trade hub, accommodating large vessels and facilitating Indian trade along the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC)
-
In a significant development on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of ambitious maritime projects worth a staggering Rs 23,000 crore. These projects are part of India's broader vision for the blue economy, a strategic initiative aimed at bolstering port infrastructure, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering international collaboration. The announcement was made during the third edition of the Global Maritime India Summit, a major international gathering addressing key issues in the maritime sector.
One of the key projects is the Tuna-Tekra all-weather deep-draft terminal, which is set to be constructed at the Deendayal Port Authority in Gujarat at an estimated cost of over Rs 4,500 crore. This greenfield terminal will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) and is expected to emerge as a crucial international trade hub. It is designed to handle next-generation vessels exceeding 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and will serve as a gateway for Indian trade via the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC).
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated, dedicated to the nation, and laid the foundation stone for a series of projects worth more than Rs 23,000 crore. These projects align with the 'Amrit Kaal Vision 2047' for the Indian maritime blue economy. This long-term vision encompasses various elements, including the development of mega ports, international container transhipment ports, island development, inland waterways, and the expansion of multimodal hubs.
