India's horticulture production sees slight decline in 2023-24

India India's horticulture production for the fiscal year 2023-24 is estimated to be approximately 352.23 million tonnes, indicating a slight decrease of about 0.91 percent compared to the final estimates of the previous fiscal year.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare released the second estimate for 2023-24, predicting a decline in vegetable production.
According to the estimates, the production of onions, potatoes, brinjal (eggplant), and other vegetables is expected to decrease in the 2023-24 fiscal year. Onion production is projected to experience a significant drop from 302.08 lakh tonnes in the previous year to 242.12 lakh tonnes, reflecting a decrease of approximately 60 lakh tonnes. In the other hand, fruit production is expected to reach 112.63 million tonnes, primarily driven by increases in banana, lime/lemon, mango, guava, and grape yields. However, apple and pomegranate production is anticipated to decrease compared to the previous year.
