The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare released the second estimate for 2023-24, predicting a decline in vegetable production.

According to the estimates, the production of onions, potatoes, brinjal (eggplant), and other vegetables is expected to decrease in the 2023-24 fiscal year. Onion production is projected to experience a significant drop from 302.08 lakh tonnes in the previous year to 242.12 lakh tonnes, reflecting a decrease of approximately 60 lakh tonnes. In the other hand, fruit production is expected to reach 112.63 million tonnes, primarily driven by increases in banana, lime/lemon, mango, guava, and grape yields.
