“Indian Government Considers Mandate on Green Hydrogen Usage

During the International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH-2023) held in the national capital, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, the secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), announced that the Indian government is likely to introduce a mandate on the usage of green hydrogen in the country. The conference, which spanned three days, provided a platform for discussions on the potential of green hydrogen as a clean energy source.
Bhalla explained that the provision for a mandate on green hydrogen usage is already included in the country’s hydrogen mission. He highlighted that the energy conservation act has been amended to include a legal provision that would enforce the mandate once a decision is made. While the decision to implement the mandate has not been finalized yet, Bhalla emphasized that these steps are aimed at creating an enabling environment for its future implementation.
